JAPANESE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST (JLPT)




What is a Japanese Language proficiency test (JLPT)?
A Japanese language proficiency test is an examination offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (formerly Association of International Education, Japan). Taken by non-native Japanese speakers to evaluate and certify their skills in the Japanese language.


In JLPT there are 5 levels of examination that an examiner may take. These are N4 and N5 it measures the level of understanding of basic Japanese mainly learned in class. N1 and N2 measures the level of understanding of Japanese used in a broad range of scenes in actual everyday life. N3 is a bridging level between N1/N2 and N4/N5.
Linguistic competence required for the JLPT is expressed in terms of language activities, such as Reading and Listening. Language Knowledge, such as Vocabulary and Grammar, is also required for successful execution of these activities.




Last December 2, 2018, the teachers of Parrots went to The De La Salle University (DLSU) one of the three venues of the JLPT. At 11:30 am the university was opened for the examiners and for the first time in The De La Salle University history that it was jam-packed with over 6,000 examinees.





What do you have to bring when you take the JLPT?
On the day of the examination the things that you need to bring are:

1. Your JLPT exam voucher
Don’t forget to bring your JLPT exam voucher because this is your ticket to take the examination.

2. Valid ID
You need to bring a valid ID (example: Passport) to confirm your identity in taking the JLPT.




3. Pencil (Monggol #2)
An examiner should always have a pencil right? To take the exam you need bring Monggol #2 pencil to answer your paper. You should also bring an extra pencil just in case!


4. Wristwatch
JLPT is strictly timed! So you need to spend your time wisely when taking the test.


5. Notes
To pass the time while waiting for the examination to start you can scan through your notes or books to refresh your knowledge.
